Wa BMG 44

Wa BMG 44 is a hip hop crew from Thiaroye, a town on the outskirts of Dakar. They were among the first wave of hip hop groups in Senegal to become popular. Their first album was released in 1998 and soon after their tracks were featured on international compilations. The group got to tour internationally and recorded tracks in Belgium and Holland, resulting in the album '44 4 life'. Group member Matador also releases solo work and his first solo album 'Xippil Xoll' (2007) combines slam and rap. Wa BMG 44 are known for tackling serious social and political issues in their lyrics and in 2005 Matador organized a big hip hop concert in support of victims of the flooding in Thiaroye.
