Carlou D was bron in Dakar, Senegal in 1979. Stimulated by his father, he left school in 1995 to fully dedicate himself to music, initially playing the guitar, singing and later dancing. Carlou D collaborated on Daby’s album ‘ ‘Khalanam’ in 2000 and won the first prize at the ‘Oscar des Vacances’ in 2002 for best choreography of the group Navajo. He formed the group Ska Blue with singers Ass Malick and Seydiman. In 2003 Carlou D became a member of the hip hop crew Positive Black Soul (PBS) together with Baay Sool and Didier Awadi, both well known in Senegalese hip hop scene. In 2004 Carlou D released his debut solo alum ‘Séédé’.
With his second album ‘Muzikr’, containing tracks such as ‘Namenala’, Sam Fall’, ‘Fi Ma Diar’ and ‘Goree’ (with collaboration of Youssou N’Dour), Carlou D proves to be virtuous guitar player, singer and songwriter with his inspirations rooted in Baye Fall religious traditions. He writes thoughtful, often laid-back songs that switch between ballads to mbalax and blues, with the occasional reminder of his hip hop past.
