19th – 24th December, 2008
Broadcasting straight from a glass studio in Nairobi, KICC, and streaming non-stop in video via this very website, Ghetto Radio, in cooperation with 3fm radio, Netherlands, and radio stations in Belgium and Sweden, will be staging the event of the month, 'Serious Request'.

Request?
Yes. For the six days, you, the audience, determine the playlist by requesting your favourite song on Ghetto Radio 89.5FM, and by doing so you’ll be helping to draw worldwide attention to the refugee crisis.

What’s gonna happen?
For 6 days and nights, 3 DJs will live in, sleep in, and broadcast non-stop from a glass house in the centre of Nairobi. The catch? Not only are they observable all day and all night (it is literally a “glass” house), but here's the kicker: they get no food for the 6 days!

Serious Request: More than just a stunt
It’s not called 'Serious Request' for nothing. The idea is to raise awareness of the international refugee crisis.

Right now, people just like you and I are becoming refugees because of what's going down in the Democratic Republic of Congo. And we all remember over a quarter of a million Kenyans becoming refugees in their own country following the post-election violence at the end of last year/start of this year.

Whenever and wherever terror breaks out, the result is regular people ending up in makeshift camps for months on end. The world’s media report on the camps for a few weeks, and then turn to the next bit of “new” news. But the refugees, who’ve lost everything but their lives, are still in the camps.

Can you make a request now?
Sure you can. Just e-mail us, at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , the details of your favourite song (track name and artist) along with your name, phone number, and your city/neighbourhood. Rock, pop, hip hop, reggae, whatever the genre, the choice is yours.

So, get plenty of sleep before the 19th of December, ‘cos it’s gonna be a 6-day blast right here at Ghetto Radio online. To give you a better idea of what to expect, here's a compilation video of last year's Serious Request event in Den Haag, the Netherlands (the theme, then, was the lack of "fresh drinkable water").

Peace out

Good Stuff, visibility reduces the problem by half. Keep it up. 6 Days is too long hope they make it
