An emotionally powerful film, a mix of quotes, interviews and creations, from the WeOwnTV filmmaking workshop in Sierra Leone. (Click on “Read More” for more vidz)
WeOwnTV, (which roughly translates in Krio as 'Our Own TV’), is a collaborative media project (with BAVC) to promote self-expression by giving ex-combatants and survivors the filmmaking and editing skills they’ll need to share their ideas, stories and experiences with the world. Some of you may recognize Black Nature in the WeOwnTV trailer from our previous post about the roots reggae group Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars.
You can’t help but marvel at our resilience, and our capacity and need to create. But you know, also, that recovery from war isn't a given - it requires effort and the will to do so - and you hope we never need to find out just how much will and effort is required. So, hats off to everyone involved in WeOwnTV. Why not drop them a line to show some support?
