Roots and identity
This is about biological roots, although, strictly speaking, that would make everyone African (if the dominant view of the origin of modern humans is correct). (Click on "Read More")

So it’s about closeness to one end on the spectrum of biological roots, but also about an existential, psychological and emotional connection to a place, even if you were born and raised elsewhere.

Fiddling while Rome burns
How much would any of this matter if people, wherever they happen to be, were just accepted as people, whatever their colour, wherever they were “from”, and if the subtext of relationships between ethnic groups had nothing to do with the notion of we-were here-first-so-this-land-is-our-land-and-you’re not-really-one-of-us?

Utopian? Something to aim for, even if we never get there. What do you think? Do you feel African? How?
