Yesterday was Earth Day, but events, rallies, and various activities relating to the subject of climate change are going on around the world all week, so it seems apt to run Episodes 5 (Dakar) and 1 (Lagos) from the BBC's Hot Cities series that originally aired last October/November.
Climate change is starting to affect the way we live (it's no longer just about some shrinking polar ice caps thousands of miles aways). While the consequences are most noticeable in certain parts of Africa, Asia, Alaska and in island nations such as the Maldives, we know now that it's only a matter of time before everybody everywhere feels the pain. In comparison with the estimated 30,000 African professionals who leave the continent to work in Europe or America, the number of those moving back "home" is more a trickle than a flow.
