Regulars to This Is Africa will know how highly we rate New York-based Ghanaian rapper Blitz the Ambassador, and why: his delivery, the way he moves effortlessly between afrobeat, hip hop and soul, what he chooses to rap about, his preference for live instrumentation when he performs, his professionalism and work ethic, and for getting better and better with each release, the most recent of which was the masterpiece Native Sun (listen HERE), the album about which Canada's biggest music publication (Eclaim Mag) concluded “There’s African hip-hop, there are African grooves with rapping on top and then there’s Blitz”, and the Daily Mirror, “Harsh and sweet, politically engaged and musically abundant."
This guy always give you more than you expect; if you think we're laying it on a bit thick then check out this short film with music from Native Sun:
I mean, how many artists do you know releasing short films to accompany their albums? And he puts on a hell of a live show, too. So we are pleased to be able to offer some lucky This Is Africa visitors the chance to see Blitz the Ambassador perform this Sunday (17th July) in Toko MC in Westergasfabriek, Amsterdam. We're not flying anyone in - oh, no we're not - so this will probably only be of interest to music fans who live in the Netherlands, or who plan on being in the Netherlands this weekend anyway.
