It’s been a great couple of months for the Ghanaian MC Sarkodie, aka Obidibi, known also as the fastest rapper in Ghana. First came the announcement that Akon had signed him to his newly launched Konvict Africa, set to operate out of Nigeria and South Africa (Here’s more from the president of Konvict Music International on the Konvict Africa deal). This makes him the second African musician to be associated with Konvict on this level after UK-based Sway Dasafo.

And now, after years spent cutting his teeth on rap battles in Ghana’s underground scene, Sarkodie offers more reasons why he is, these days, the most talked about name in Hiplife. Eight reasons to be precise. Just a few days ago he received eight nominations at the Ghana Music Awards, with Baby, featuring Mugeez (of the duo R2Bees) staking a claim in three categories, Hip Hop/Hiplife Song of the Year, Best Collaboration of the Year, and Most Popular Song of the Year.

All will be revealed on the 10th of April, but to this Tema-repping rapper it’s a done deal, and watching Borga (featuring J Town), his slight piss-take of Africans living abroad, we’re inclined to agree.
