Omawumi - If You Ask Me 1/1

If You Ask Me - Omawumi by thisisafrica

We’re barely into the new year but the Naija music industry never takes a break from churning out those likely hits. The latest is from former Idols West Africa runner up, Omawumi.

Since the huge success of her debut album 'Wonder Woman', which generated hits like 'Today Na Today' and 'Chocolata' (which featured Naeto C), and came close to scooping Best Album of the Year at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards 2010, the songbird has been in the studio working on her as yet unnamed forthcoming album. It has a lot to live up to, but judging by this newly-released single I’d say history might just be about to repeat itself.

This first single 'If You Ask Me' (Na Who I Go Ask?) produced by Cobhams Asuquo tackles child abuse, complementing her work as an ambassador of Project Alert (which advocates for zero tolerance for all forms of violence or abuse against women and young girls).

Says Omawumi, speaking about the track, “Incest and child abuse is a serious wrong that is taken lightly in our society. Statistics show that 1 in every 4 children has been molested by a family member, neighbour or hired help and “If You Ask Me” is just another way of speaking out”.
