Chimurenga Zimbabwe! "Boom!" by Tendai Maraire

Chimurenga - Boom 1/1

Zimbabwe Rhodesia regained its independence as Zimbabwe on April 18, 1980, and despite the setbacks since then, despite the economic challenges, this day is still to be celebrated.

"Chimurenga" is a Shona word for 'revolutionary struggle', and it's modern interpretation covers the  struggle for human rights, political dignity and social justice, specifically used for the African insurrections against British colonial rule 1896–1897 (First Chimurenga) and the guerrilla war against the white minority regime of Rhodesia 1966–1980 (Second Chimurenga). Check Zimbabwean writer and filmmaker Charles Mudede's article A Time of Struggle: Baba Maraire’s “rhodZi” for more on this

Tendai Maraire (member of Seattle-based hip-hop collective Shabazz Palaces and son of Abraham Dumisani Maraire, the man who introduced Zimbabwean music to North America) delivers Boom!, a fiery rap about fidelity to the political project initiated by his ancestors, the project of establishing justice and independence for black people.
